One material group, many grades
Copper, bronzes and brasses form a broad material group with different compositions and properties. A family name does not replace the exact grade from the drawing.
Include the full material designation in your enquiry. If it is missing or illegible, state this and describe the application and operating conditions.
Documentation for copper and copper alloy castings
Provide the full material designation from the drawing or specification. If it has not been established, describe the component’s application and operating conditions.
For a feasibility review, include a drawing or 3D model, the quantity, details of available tooling, the required delivery condition and the machining scope. Are bronze and brass the same material?
No. They are different copper alloy families. Include the exact grade from the documentation in your enquiry.
Can the alloy be identified from the colour in a photograph?
No. Colour also depends on the surface, lighting and processing. The grade must come from documentation or testing.
Can the casting be supplied with machining?
The scope may include machining of specified surfaces when the requirements are agreed from the drawing.
How should I describe a one-off component or a series?
State the quantity, material, dimensions, available pattern or sample, delivery condition and acceptance requirements.
